Where each alternative fits
AI room tools differ on two things that matter most to a homeowner: whether the furniture in the result is real, and whether the result is measured or just a picture. RoomGPT sits in the corner where both answers are no.
Interior AI: more control over the redesign
Better than RoomGPT for: range and control. Interior AI covers dozens of room types and design styles, adds virtual staging and a sketch mode that turns rough drawings or SketchUp views into renders, and can produce walkthrough videos. If RoomGPT's small set of presets felt limiting, this is the most direct upgrade.
Where it falls short: there is no free plan, and like RoomGPT, the furniture it draws is generated, not sold anywhere. Quality varies by room type.

REimagineHome: the best free trial of a full redesign tool
Better than RoomGPT for: trying before paying, and keeping the room's structure intact. Its pricing page offers 5 free designs at signup, with no card, at the same quality as paid plans. It also handles empty-room staging, exteriors, and batch uploads for agents, and can suggest real products within a budget.
Where it falls short: five designs go quickly if you keep re-rolling, and it offers less control over exactly where individual pieces go.
Price: paid plans run from $14 to $99 a month depending on credits. We tested it alongside RoomGPT in our same-photo comparison.
Spacely AI: for designers and commercial use
Better than RoomGPT for: professional work. Spacely's pricing page lists 40 one-time trial credits with no card, and describes the free plan as including high-resolution downloads, a commercial licence, and watermark-free images. You can also select individual objects in a render to remove, replace, or recolour them, which RoomGPT does not offer.
Where it falls short: credits are not renders. Spacely puts typical use at 6 to 20 credits per session, so the trial covers roughly two to six sessions. Room dimensions are approximate, as with every generative tool.
Price: paid plans from $25 a month, as of September 2026.
ChatGPT and Gemini: free brainstorming
Better than RoomGPT for: conversation. Free ChatGPT and Gemini accounts can edit an uploaded room photo within limits the companies adjust over time, and you can ask follow-up questions: what colour works with a green sofa, what the style is called, how big the rug should be. Instructions like "paint the walls sage and keep everything else the same" let you change one variable at a time.
Where it falls short: edits can quietly move windows, change proportions, or invent furniture. Neither publishes a fixed free allowance.

Collov AI: for property listings
Better than RoomGPT for: real estate. Collov focuses on virtual staging and listing photo tools, turning empty or dated rooms into marketable images quickly, with the consistency agents need across a whole listing.
Where it falls short: free results are watermarked, and staged renders are marketing images, not a shopping list for a homeowner.

MeltFlex AI: redesigns with furniture you can buy
Better than RoomGPT for: turning a redesign into a shopping list. MeltFlex builds rooms around furniture from real retailers, so the pieces in the picture are meant to be purchasable, which fixes RoomGPT's biggest weakness.
Where it falls short: you still need to check each product's dimensions, price, and stock yourself, and one free design is enough to judge the approach, not to furnish a room.

Planner 5D: when you need a measured layout
Better than RoomGPT for: knowing whether things fit. You build the room to its real measurements and place furniture to scale in 2D and 3D, so walkways and clearances are real numbers. Its AI Studio adds image generation on top of the plan. If you want a browser-based alternative with a large library of branded models, Homestyler works in a similar way.
Where it falls short: you do the modelling, and catalogue items stand in for the products you might actually buy.

IKEA Kreativ: furnishing with IKEA
Better than RoomGPT for: real products at real scale, free. According to IKEA, you photograph the room from a series of angles and the app builds an interactive replica with accurate dimensions and perspective. You can erase your existing furniture and place IKEA pieces in the space.
Where it falls short: IKEA products only, and availability varies by country.
Price: free.
DecorViz: testing a product you already found
Better than RoomGPT for: the step after inspiration. Instead of generating new furniture, you upload a photo of your room and an image of a specific product from any retailer, and DecorViz shows that exact piece in your space. It answers "will this sofa look right here?" rather than "what style should this room be?"
Where it falls short: it is a visual check, not a measuring tool, and it previews one product at a time rather than designing a whole room. The free plan is small.

Is RoomGPT safe to use?
The practical risks with RoomGPT are the same as with any AI photo tool, plus one specific to its name.
- Check you are on the real site. The original RoomGPT is at roomgpt.io. Several unrelated websites and App Store or Google Play apps use the same name, and many refund complaints and pricing screenshots online are about those, not the original. If the address bar does not say roomgpt.io, treat it as a different product.
- Pay only through the site itself, and confirm the price inside your account before buying credits, since RoomGPT does not publish a stable rate card on its homepage.
- Think about what the photo shows. A room photo shows the inside of your home. Remove family photos, documents, screens, and anything visible through a window that identifies your address, and read the privacy policy of any tool before uploading.
- Treat the result as inspiration. The furniture is generated and the proportions are approximate, so do not buy or build from the image alone.
